Project Background
South Africa faces frequent load shedding and continuously rising electricity tariffs. A large shopping mall in Bloemfontein decided to adopt aPV + battery storage hybrid systemto ensure power supply stability, reduce high electricity costs, and enhance its green image.Singfo Solar, with extensive experience in overseas integrated solar-storage projects, provided a complete solution from design, equipment supply, to installation and commissioning — ensuring the mall can maintain critical loads during grid fluctuations while achieving attractive economic returns.

Singfo Solar Solution
Considering themetal sheet rooftopand the mall’s demand for high peak tariff savings and backup power, we designed a2.2MW PV + 3.4MWh battery storageintelligent hybrid system:
-High-Efficiency PV System:Installed high-power monocrystalline modules on the metal rooftop usingspecialized clamps + non-penetrating fastening, preserving the waterproof layer, with lightweight design ensuring roof structural safety.
-Battery Energy Storage System (BESS):Deployed a3.4MWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systemwith modular design, supporting peak shaving and load shifting (charging during off-peak hours, discharging during peak hours) as well as backup power. During load shedding or grid faults, the BESS automatically switches to supply uninterrupted power to critical loads such as lighting, cold storage, and elevators.
-Smart Energy Management:Implemented an integrated energy management system (EMS) that optimizes the coordination of PV generation, battery charging/discharging, and grid consumption — maximizing self-consumption and reducing demand charges.
-Grid Compliance & Safety:Inverters and Energy Storage Converter were selected and commissioned in strict compliance with South African grid standard NRS 097-2-1, featuring anti-islanding protection and grid support functions to ensure personnel and equipment safety.

Environmental & Economic Impact
Commissioned on April 23, 2026, the system delivers outstanding performance:
-Daily PV Generation:Based on the local average peak sun hours of6 hours, the system generates10,560 kWh per day.
-Daily Electricity Cost Saving:At the client’s average tariff ofRMB 1.6/kWh(approx. $0.22/kWh),daily savings amount to RMB 16,896(~$2,280).
-Annual PV Output:Approximately3.85 million kWh(conservatively based on 350 effective days).
-BESS Revenue:Peak shaving and demand charge management generate an additionalRMB 300,000–500,000per year, depending on local time-of-use tariffs.
-Emission Reduction:Saves about1,270 tonsof standard coal and reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately3,200 tonsannually, equivalent to planting170,000 trees.
-Return on Investment:Expected payback period of4–5 years, with a system design life of over 20 years — providing the mall with long-term stable green power and backup electricity.
