[Beijing, April 2024] According to the latest data from the National Energy Administration (NEA), China's installed capacity of wind and solar power has reached a milestone 1.482 billion kilowatts by the end of March 2024, officially overtaking coal-fired power for the first time in history. This breakthrough builds on previous achievements: non-fossil energy sources first exceeded coal capacity in late 2023, followed by renewable energy (including wind, solar and biomass) surpassing coal again by end-2024. The latest data marks a new chapter in China's low-carbon transition, demonstrating the nation's unwavering commitment to sustainable development and its global leadership in climate governance.

Three-Stage Leapfrog Development
- December 2023: Non-fossil energy capacity reaches 1.45 billion kW, first exceeding coal
- December 2024: New energy capacity (wind/solar/biomass) hits 1.53 billion kW
- March 2024: Wind & solar alone achieve 1.482 billion kW milestone
